Educational Website Spotlight: Parlay
Teacher friends, have you all heard about Parlay yet? We wrote about it in our blog post on How to Grade Class Discussions. If you are teaching in a remote or hybrid setting, this is definitely a website that you need to be checking out! Parlay is a discussion-based learning tool and global community of educators who are reimagining class discussions for the 21st Century.
How does it work?
You can create your own Round Table Discussion or you can peruse the Parlay Universe for remade discussions.
Students review the content and materials that you have provided for them and then submit a response to the assignment.
Students read each others’ responses and then provide feedback or build on each others’ responses. The best part? It can be totally anonymous! Students feel free from judgement and ridicule from their peers when they are answering prompts anonymously. This is especially awesome when students are reading and learning about race, racism, oppression, or social justice issues.
Teachers, you can also conduct these discussions in a live format. If you are teaching in-person, students can use Parlay in the live discussion format.
There is also awesome data that is provided with Parlay Round Table discussions. You can see how many students wrote responses and how many students replied to each other and how often.
Last, Parlay provides awesome automated teacher feedback for students.
How much?
Right now we are using the free version of Parlay. The free version allows for up to 12 Round Tables, unlimited access to the Parlay Universe, and it connects seamlessly to Google Classroom.
For $160 for the year, a teacher would get unlimited Round Tables, could have unlimited students, and receive prompts on demand.
Parlay has so many more resources, ideas, and further reading on their site. If you are teaching remotely, Hybrid, or a blend of both, definitely check them out!
We hope you find this app to be as amazing as we do!
