Fun Language Arts Games to Play In Middle School

Sometimes, our students just need a break from learning, especially during the spring testing season. Here are some games that we use in our classroom, sparingly of course!

Apples to Apples - Our students love playing this vocabulary game. Warning: your classroom will get loud with screaming and laughter.

What Do You Meme? Family Edition - This is a great game, similar to Apples to Apples, where students can work on their inferring skills with humor using memes. Who does’t get a kick out of a meme?

Incohearent Family Edition - This is a fun game for students to practice language and how sounds work, but make it more challenging and goofy for middle schoolers.

Wordle - This one is free and students like to play it, but watch out for that one kid who shouts out the answer. SMH.

Imaginiff - This one is fun to play with just the cards while also helping students develop figurative language skills. Your class needs to be together for about a semester before they know each other well enough to play this game.

Our students have so much fun with these games, and it also helps them reinforce reading skills, but they don’t know that.
