Is the Peloton Tread Worth the Cost?

We have posted in the past about our love of the Peloton bike. Recently, Denise and I both purchased a Peloton Tread to add to our in-home gym equipment. We have both been avid Peloton bike riders for years, and we were ready to add some variety to our workout routines.

Don't Have Money for the Tread? Start here:

I didn’t know if I really needed a Tread in my life. For the longest time, I just used the Peloton outdoor content. I would take walks outside using the audio classes that they provide through the app. I then branched out and started taking the tread classes outside. It never even occurred to me that I didn’t actually need to be watching the instructor to get a great workout in. After a year of walking outside, I knew that I wanted to up my Peloton game, and I started saving.

It took me months to save enough money to afford the Peloton Tread. To be honest, the only good thing to come out of the pandemic is the amount of money I am able to save each month. I don’t go out to eat at restaurants, I don’t make weekly shopping trips to Target just because, and I don’t go out to the movies like I used to. For these reasons, I was able to save the money to buy the tread fairly quickly. I was also able to take advantage of a deal that Peloton was offering and I received $300 off my purchase. That was an added bonus, as Peloton now charges for delivery.  Another option, if you cannot buy the Tread outright, is to use their financing plan through Affirm.

What is so great about the Tread?

If anyone knows me, they know that I like to do my research before making big decisions. Buying a $3000 dollar treadmill is a pretty big decision, so I wanted to make sure that I was making the right choice. I knew that I could buy more affordable treadmills and wanted to make sure the Tread was worth the price tag.

One thing that really sealed the deal for me was the overall footprint of the tread. My family lives in a townhome with very limited living space. We don’t have a dedicated fitness room, so both our Tread and our bike needed to fit in our family room. I found a spot that I thought the Tread would fit nicely, and I taped off the area. We lived around it for about a month to make sure that we could make the Tread work in our home. To be honest, it really does not take up as much room as I thought it would.

Another reason the Tread was worth the price for me is that I can use my one membership for both pieces of equipment. Due to the pandemic, I never go to the gym any more. For me, the Peloton’s monthly fee of $39 a month is well worth the price for all of the original content. Plus, the membership fee covers multiple people. Both my husband and I use the same membership, so it really is not a huge amount for both of us to have unlimited access to content.

What are the Classes Offered Through the Tread?

Like the bike, the Tread has multiple types of classes you can take. The types of classes the  Tread offers include:

Running - The Peloton Tread offers a ton of different types of runs and running programs. Even if you are new to running, like me, the types of running classes you can take are endless. They offer: beginner and low-intensity runs, hills, speed, race prep, heart rate zone runs and music-driven fun runs.

Walk and Run Classes- one of my favorite classes to take right now are the ones that alternate between running and walking. I cannot run a full 30 minutes

Walking - You can really work up a sweat with the low-impact walking class on the Tread. Their classes  range from power walking, to inclines, distance walks and hybrid run-walk classes.

Hiking - Want a great booty burn? Check out the hiking classes. They are an awesome low impact option that will have you sweating.

Bootcamps - I LOVE the bootcamp classes. They are a great blend of cardio and strength training. They offer classes at three difficultly levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. So, even if you are not a runner (yet) you can still try the Bootcamp classes. They also offer Hiking Bootcamps which are such a fun workout.

You also can play all of their floor based content through the Tread, like: Strength, Cardio, Yoga, Stretching, and Meditations.

What if I Only Want to Use the Tread to Walk?

Want to know a dirty little secret? When I first bought the Tread, it was because I wanted to be able to walk at home. It wasn’t until I started taking the classes that I realized that I actually enjoyed running. I am by no means a runner (yet), but it is way easier to run on the Tread than it is to hit the streets and jog.

If all you want to do is walk on the Tread, there is more than enough content to keep you working out on the daily. The great thing about Peloton is that they have a coach and a type of class for everyone.

Bottom Line:

The Tread is an expensive piece of exercise equipment, but in the end, it is well worth the price point if you enjoy a group fitness level workout even when you are home alone. The inspirational coaches and the motivating music all on one compact piece of equipment make the Peloton Tread a great investment for your overall health.
