New YA Books Coming in October

2022 has been a banner year for great books with wide appeal to middle school students to add to my classroom library, and the year is not over. I am eagerly awaiting these books to add to my classroom library:

Sisterhood of Sleuths by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman

A clever and thought-provoking mystery that pays homage to classic Nancy Drew stories, perfect for fans of Wendy Mass and Trenton Lee Stewart. This new book by the author of the Book Scavenger series explores the power of the female sleuth in a modern setting. Characters that jump off the page, authentic friendships that twist and turn, and fun laugh-out-loud moments make this a great addition to your classroom library

A Rover's Story by Jasmine Warga

The One and Only Ivan meets The Wild Robot in this unique and deeply moving middle grade novel about the journey of a fictional Mars rover, from the Newbery Honor-winning author of Other Words for Home. In addition to a totally engaging story, readers will learn quite a bit about rovers, Mars, scientific process, and space exploration.

The Real Deal by Lindsey Stoddard

This is a touching story of friendship and school, overcoming the difficult parts of life and being there for friends when they are going through a difficult time. Despite dealing with some tough issues, there are some great laugh out loud moments. You are going to need multiple copies of this one.

Strike the Zither (Strike the Zither #1) by Joan He

A reimagining of the incredibly famous Chinese military epic Romance of the Three Kingdoms, in which a strategist must help her warlordess to victory against the rival kingdoms to the north and the south while overcoming her fate as written by the gods. A beautifully written book with powerful characters and a roller coaster ride of plot twists that's nearly impossible to put down.
