Tesla Model 3/Y Review

So, I recently purchased a 2021 Tesla Model 3. I’ve been dreaming of having a Tesla since I first saw a model S in 2013. I just never really believed that it was possible for me on a teacher’s salary. Then when the model 3 came out in 2016, I thought well…maybe… someday decades from now, it might happen. I never really thought it would be possible for me to own one this soon, but I started seeing a lot of my friends buying the Tesla Model 3 around 2019. That is why it is so important to have expanders in your life to show you what is possible. And now I have one!

Let me tell you, that car lives up to the hype. It is so fast, like scary fast. It pulls you back in the seat. I’m not one for roller coasters, so that is why I keep my Tesla on chill mode. That is still pretty fast. It has a minimalist interior, which I love and is completely customizable for the perfect driving experience. Teslas are the safest cars you can drive. It has zero emissions, and it is good for the environment. And the self driving features are safer and more accurate than human drivers. Sounds good to me.

I spent the better part of three years saving up for this car. I made a test drive appointment at my local Tesla store and took it for a spin. And that was it, I was sold! I decided on the Long Range because it had the biggest battery. One thing to note about Teslas is that you don’t really ever want to charge to 100% or get your battery to 0. Tesla batteries are best at 50%. Here is a video on why:

As for basic configuration, I decided to stick with the free white paint color choice (the other paint colors cost an additional $1000 - $2000) and the free black 18” Areo wheels. The other 19” wheels do look cooler, but it just wasn’t worth the extra $1500 for the upgrade. I did upgrade to the white interior ($1000) because it not only just looks cool, but it makes the car feel light and airy. I also splurged on the Full Self Driving ( FSD) package. For me, it has made driving so much less stressful. It is worth every penny for that upgrade.

For those of you that think, well must be nice, but I will never be able to afford a Tesla. Well, here’s the thing: your beliefs and perception are your reality. If you want a Tesla, you can save up for it like I did. They also have a great trade-in program and will give you a higher price then most other auto companies. The average new car in America costs $40,000. That is how much the cheapest Tesla costs. They are also working on making a $25,000 car in the next few years, because everyone should be able to afford an EV. Lastly, Tesla offers a great interest rate on a car loan. If you have awesome credit, you can get that interest rate even lower.

Lastly, I also got the Tesla car insurance. They quoted me the best price, $500 dollars less than everyone else. They only insure Teslas, know how to fix them, and know the value of how safe their auto steer and full self-driving features are. They can also track your driving in a Tesla which can help to lower your premium in future years. Tesla has really thought of everything and has so many more great plans in the works. I’m a fan!
